Your editorial ( 1-16-01 ) on Engelestad is well taken , but how about the relationship between the UND Legal counsel Evans and the UND Police department ?

This is Julie Evans ( The UND general Counsel ) justice delux in cooperation with the campus police . An obvious disguted joint venture of stupidity and unfairness to further harm the reputation of UND .

What did the campus police had to do with lecturer Thong ? Mr. Thong did not refuse to leave his ofiice at UND . Mr. Thong was justified in asking for an appointment with administrator Boyd when he was fired witout notice and after a local Judge reinstitute him . Instead , the campus police escorted him out of the administration building ( see page 6A of Herald's article ) . Why did the police threatend Mr. Thong of arrest if he came back to the campus again ? The campus is a public state owned property and any one can walk throw it . This is not the first time for julie to use the police for her agenda . President Kupchella should wake-up and dismiss the lawless UND general counsel who was appointed without abiding by affirmative action requirements or consideration of her lack of legal experience .

Look at today's GF Herald on front page 1B and consider the following . ( 1 ) The UND Lecturer Benjamin Thong was fired on the spot without a notice or due process . ( 2 ) Mr. Thong received good students teaching evaluations from us . ( 3 ) last Monday , a Grand Forks judge reinstated our instructor back to the job with pay but UND refused him access to the campus . ( 4 ) Mr. Thong was removed from the campus by the police when he went to see Dean Boyd for his dismissal . ( 5 ) The campus police escorted Mr. Thong out of the administration building and informed Mr. Thong in the parking lot never to come back again to UND . ( 6 ) All of this was done under the Direction of the UND general legal counsel . What does the legal counsel woman wants ? , more blood or something else ? Is this a police State on UND campus ? For example , students were arrested when expressed their opinions on the Sioux name , although the faculty senate supported this opinion , also mentioned in Today's GF Herald on front page ,

The Board of Higher Education should intervene and outlines the relationship between the legal counsel and the police department on the campus . Mr. Thong should be able to return to his office and lecture us again . Mr Thong should be able to defend himself . The general legal counsel for UND should respect the law and the court's order . The appointment of the general legal counsel should be reviewed by the Education Board as soon as possible for her qualifications , experience and be dismissed on the spot for the various wrong doings , because she is not a faculty and therefore , according to her own concept in the Thong's dismissal , she would have no right for due process either . A last note : the police department should be investigating rapes and other offenses on the campus rather than escorting Mr. Thong out of the campus for no wrong doing .

We are surprised that none of our professors has complained about what happened and their tolerance for the interference in the privacy of Mr. Thong in his own office by the administrators in his department . Hi professors don't cry academic freedom and due process if you can not stand for it .
